Six consecutive clean sheets across all competitions do not happen by accident. Marco Rose has turned Bournemouth into a ruthless pressing unit, and Saturday's 2-0 win over Leeds United showed how brutally they punish hesitation. One momentary lapse was all the Cherries needed to take control.
Before Leeds collapsed, Daniel Farke's side actually looked like the sharper team. Leeds arrived on the south coast with a plan to squeeze central space and deny Bournemouth early momentum. Daniel James made his first league start of the season, providing pace on the break.
Bournemouth entered the match having scored inside the opening eight minutes in three straight home games. Leeds broke that run by matching Bournemouth's physical intensity in midfield. Rose acknowledged that early parity, admitting Leeds matched his team's tempo from the kickoff.
That solid foundation almost delivered an opening goal for Leeds in the 11th minute. James Justin whipped a dangerous cross toward the near post. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, making his 50th appearance for Leeds, attacked the ball and bundled it over the line.
Farke celebrated on the touchline, later lamenting the loss of what he called "one of the best team goals of the season." The celebrations ended when video replays showed the ball ricocheting off Calvert-Lewin's biceps, wiping the goal off for handball.
Rose admitted Bournemouth got away with one, offering a simple reaction: "Lucky us." Escaping that deficit failed to spark the Cherries immediately, as their attack struggled for touches against Leeds's disciplined shape.
Trafford's blunder and the pressing trap
For the first thirty minutes, Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier were completely silenced. Bournemouth lacked zip and struggled to play through Leeds's midfield lines. Then came James Trafford's unforced error in the 30th minute, flipping the match on its head.
Trafford collected a routine back-pass under mild pressure from the advancing frontline. Instead of clearing long, the young goalkeeper made a horrible mess of a pass toward an unwitting Ao Tanaka on the edge of the box.
Justin Kluivert reacted in a flash. The winger pounced on the loose ball, drove into the penalty area, and squared across the face of goal. Evanilson was waiting in space to tap home his fifth goal in six matches.
It was an excruciating error for Leeds to digest. Farke was blunt after the final whistle, identifying the giveaway as the fatal moment that broke his side's rhythm.
"It was self-inflicted, an own goal. This was decisive. Overall we played a good away game." — Daniel Farke
For Trafford, the moment carried an uncomfortable sense of déjà vu. The giveaway looked nearly identical to an error he made in Manchester City colours against Tottenham at the start of last season, rushing his distribution under duress.
Farke defended his goalkeeper, suggesting Trafford avoid watching the replay. Farke maintained that Trafford is a terrific young goalkeeper who will save more points than he cost Leeds on Saturday. Still, gifting cheap openers undermines entire game plans.
Kluivert's assist highlighted an impressive personal turnaround. After going 32 league matches without an assist, Kluivert has now assisted in back-to-back games for the first time since March 2025.
The goal also made history for Evanilson. As The Guardian reported, he became the first Brazilian player to score a Premier League goal on Halloween since Raphinha did so for Leeds against Norwich in 2021.
Rose was thrilled with his striker's movement in the penalty area, praising the Brazilian's growing influence.
"I just met him and told him you are a real No 9. He has to reward himself with goals and that is what he is doing." — Marco Rose

Why Leeds folded after falling behind
The psychological toll on Leeds was immediate. Instead of sticking to the structure that had frustrated Bournemouth for half an hour, Leeds lost their heads as anxiety set in.
Tanaka embodied that collective unraveling before the break. Stranded by Trafford's earlier blunder, the midfielder panicked when closed down and punted a wild clearance directly into the stands.
Leeds offered virtually no resistance after the restart. As noted in the Sky Sports match report, Leeds produced a miserable 0.61 xG from ten shots, managing only one shot on target all game.
Leeds are now winless in five Premier League matches, scoring just twice across that stretch. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored three of Leeds's nine league goals this season, but he spent the second half dropping deep into his own half just to find a touch.
Recent transfer talk linking Calvert-Lewin with Manchester United looks bizarre in this light. Joining another attack will not help him if he continues to be starved of service inside the penalty box.
Former Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams rubbed salt into the wound. Adams was booed throughout the afternoon by the away end following his 2023 departure, but he completely controlled the middle of the pitch to shut down Leeds's transitions.
Kroupi and Adli seal the points off the bench
What separates Bournemouth from relegation battlers like Leeds is the attacking depth Rose can call upon. With Thursday's European trip looming, Rose withdrew Evanilson after 75 minutes to preserve his top scorer for Prague.
Rose introduced Eli Junior Kroupi for a 25-minute runout as the teenager builds match sharpness. Kroupi immediately sliced through Leeds's tired backline with sharp movement in transition.
Deep into stoppage time, Kroupi produced the highlight of the match. Collecting the ball out wide, he beat his defender with an audacious nutmeg and slid a pinpoint cross to Amine Adli, who swept home for 2-0.
Rose praised Kroupi's vision after the whistle, noting that the young forward understands how to solve problems in tight spots. Bournemouth plan to steadily increase Kroupi's minutes as his match fitness improves.
Six straight clean sheets, but Prague will test their depth
The victory over Leeds extended Bournemouth's defensive streak to six consecutive wins in all competitions without conceding a single goal. Rose's team has scored 16 unanswered goals across that run, shutting out an impressive list of opponents:
- Sturm Graz and Sunderland
- AC Milan and Manchester United
- Aston Villa and Leeds United
Keeping clean sheets against AC Milan, Manchester United, and Aston Villa proves this defensive structure is legitimate. Bournemouth have now won three consecutive Premier League games without conceding for the first time in club history.
The clean sheet also ended a long drought against Leeds. Bournemouth had not kept a clean sheet against them since September 1988. The Cherries are now unbeaten in their last four league encounters with Leeds, winning two and drawing two.
Evanilson continues to deliver exceptional numbers. With four goals and four assists, his eight Premier League goal involvements trail only Erling Haaland's nine across the division. Evanilson has now scored in four straight Premier League matches, his best streak in England.
Yet Bournemouth cannot afford complacency. Their squad remains small, and the opening half-hour against Leeds proved they can look sluggish when an opponent matches their work rate. If Leeds had not gifted them the opener, breaking down that stubborn low block would have been far more difficult.
Thursday's Europa League assignment in Prague will test those physical reserves. European away matches rarely offer the luxury of unforced goalkeeping blunders. Rose will need his rotation players to step up again if Bournemouth are to protect their winning run and take all three points.
Winning while playing below your best remains the mark of an evolving, confident side. Bournemouth rode their luck early, waited for Leeds to crack, and punished them without mercy. As long as Evanilson stays lethal and Kroupi continues his rise, this remarkable defensive run is far from over.
