1. Executive Overview: Core Theses & Key Revelations
The closing stages of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) regular season have historically operated as a crucible, winnowing superficial contenders from authentic championship claimants. In the latest edition of ESPN's Futbol Americas: Futbol W, veteran analysts Ali Krieger and Jeff Kassouf, alongside host Christina Alexander, dissected a pivotal round of fixtures that reordered the tactical hierarchy of American women's professional soccer. Far from a routine recap of weekend scorelines, the conversation established several foundational theses regarding team architecture, spatial management, and the stark divergence between regular-season sustainability and postseason knockout potential.
The primary revelation from the broadcast centers on San Diego Wave's dramatic 4-2 victory over the Utah Royals. Long viewed as a talented yet fragile side capable of late-season regression, San Diego delivered what Krieger categorized as a "complete performance." At the heart of this performance was a transcendent individual and tactical display by forward Trinity Byars, whose two-goal, two-assist masterclass dismantled Utah's defensive structure. Byars demonstrated rare spatial intelligence, repeatedly exploiting wide channels, cutting inside defenders to control spatial angles, and orchestrating vertical transitions. San Diego's capacity to maintain relentless offensive pressureโresponding decisively each time Utah mounted an equalizerโsignals a profound evolution in their tactical maturity and game management.
Conversely, the discussion exposed significant structural vulnerabilities in two established contenders: the Washington Spirit and the Utah Royals. Washington's 1-0 defeat at home against the Orlando Pride marked their fourth consecutive match without a victory across all competitions and their third straight stumble at Audi Field. Despite commanding 73 percent of possession and recording 51 touches inside Orlando's penalty area, Washington exhibited severe final-third stagnation. Kassouf and Krieger highlighted a critical tactical misalignment within Washington's engine room: the absence of creative midfielder Leicy Santos has forced head coach Jonatan Girรกldez into makeshift positional experiments, including deploying defensive anchor Hal Hershfelt in an unfamiliar number ten role and shifting natural striker Ashley Hatch into central midfield.
Meanwhile, Utah's high defensive line was subjected to rigorous tactical examination. Despite individual moments of brilliance from forward Mina Tanaka, who scored twice to keep Utah competitive, Kassouf identified systemic breakdowns in spatial relationships across Utah's backline. Utah's defensive shape frequently pushed ten yards into the opposition half during out-of-possession phases, leaving vast swathes of unoccupied space behind them. This arrangement allowed San Diego to bypass as many as seven outfield defenders with a single vertical pass. Finally, Kassouf offered a definitive macroeconomic verdict on the regular-season title: the NWSL Shield is rapidly slipping out of reach for any team operating outside the New York metropolitan area, as NJ/NY Gotham FC's structural stability creates an unbridgeable margin over the pursuing pack.
2. Context & Background: The Landscape Leading to This Conversation
Understanding the weight of these tactical diagnoses requires examining the broader environmental and scheduling conditions surrounding the NWSL. The league has entered a high-density fixture period following major international tournaments, leaving several rosters grappling with physical depletion and psychological fatigue. Key international stars returning to their domestic clubs have encountered immediate tactical demands without the benefit of restorative recovery windows. This physical strain has amplified existing structural defects within squads that previously masked positional gaps through sheer athletic intensity.
Historically, Audi Field served as an impregnable fortress for the Washington Spirit. The stadium's intimate sightlines and vocal support created an environment where visiting teams consistently exhibited cautious, low-block defensive postures born of anxiety. However, recent results have systematically demystified D.C. as a hostile venue. Visiting opposition coaches now analyze Washington's home matches not with trepidation, but as opportunities to execute structured counter-attacking blueprints. When teams recognize that an opponent's home aura has dissipated, their line height shifts upward, their willingness to challenge first balls increases, and their transition speed accelerates.
San Diego Wave's current surge must also be contextualized against their historical narrative arc. In previous campaigns, San Diego demonstrated early-season dominance only to suffer severe physical and tactical drop-offs during the final stretch. Their inability to sustain high-intensity pressing across 90 minutes frequently left them vulnerable in single-elimination postseason matches. The tactical shift observed in their victory over Utah suggests that the coaching staff has re-engineered their periodization and player rotations. By pacing their physical output and developing secondary build-up patterns through players like Jordan Fusco and Christian McNabb, San Diego has constructed a model designed to peak precisely as the postseason approaches.
Furthermore, modern NWSL analytics emphasizes the profound dichotomy between Shield optimization and Championship optimization. The NWSL Shield demands deep roster rotation, low variance in possession phases, and consistent point accumulation over a 26-match regular season. The NWSL Championship, by contrast, is a high-variance, three-game elimination tournament where individual game-breakers, defensive resiliency under pressure, and transitional lethality reign supreme. Kassouf's observation regarding Gotham FC acknowledges their supreme suitability for the Shield marathon, while simultaneously leaving the door wide open for high-ceiling tournament teams like San Diego to capture the postseason trophy.
3. Deep-Dive Thematic Breakdown
To fully grasp the tactical mechanics discussed on Futbol W, it is essential to dissect each major thematic pillar individually, examining the underlying structural dynamics that governed performance on the pitch.
3.1 San Diego Wave and the Anatomy of a Complete Performance
San Diego's 4-2 triumph over Utah was an absolute masterclass in vertical exploitation and transition efficiency. Rather than seeking control through sterile possession, San Diego prioritized rapid forward movement the moment second balls were reclaimed in the middle third. Trinity Byars served as the primary instrument of this strategy. In the fourth minute, Byars demonstrated exceptional forward touch control, receiving a ball on the flank and using an inward touch to cut off the recovering defender's angle of pursuit before finishing into the far post.
Byars' influence extended beyond scoring; her off-ball movement systematically destabilized Utah's central defenders. In the 39th minute, after Christian McNabb delivered an incisive pass behind the defense, Byars drew out the goalkeeper and immediately identified teammate Tommy Barcetts in a superior scoring position, laying off an unselfish assist. Byars' ability to balance goal-scoring aggression with spatial distribution gave San Diego an operational fluidity they lacked earlier in the year. When Utah twice leveled the score through Mina Tanaka, San Diego did not retreat into a defensive shell. Instead, Jordan Fusco and Luce Mila maintained high positioning, allowing San Diego to continuously breach Utah's backline and seal a complete 90-minute performance.
3.2 Utah Royals: Spatial Breakdown and the High Line Dilemma
While Utah exhibited remarkable offensive resilience through Mina Tanaka's movement and finishing, their defensive architecture collapsed under San Diego's vertical pressing. Tanaka's goalsโparticularly her 29th-minute strike involving a clever layoff and body orientation that shielded the goalkeeperโdemonstrated Utah's technical quality in half-spaces. However, these offensive highlights were continually undermined by severe spatial disconnects between Utah's midfield line and backfour.
As Jeff Kassouf detailed in his breakdown, Utah's central defenders consistently operated ten yards in front of the midfield line while out of possession. This aggressive positioning was not paired with effective forward pressure on San Diego's ball-handlers. Without active pressure on the ball, a high line becomes an invitation for disaster. San Diego's midfielders were afforded ample time and vision to play vertical through-balls that eliminated as many as seven Utah players in a single sequence. This disconnect highlighted the boundary separating promising expansion projects from established championship contenders: the capacity to maintain compact vertical distance between defensive units under high-pace conditions.
3.3 The Deconstruction of Audi Field: Washington Spirit's Tactical Stagnation
Washington Spirit's 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pride revealed an alarming disparity between territorial dominance and genuine scoring threat. Washington registered 73 percent of total possession and accumulated 51 touches inside Orlando's penalty box. Under traditional box-score metrics, such dominance typically yields multiple goals. Yet, Washington managed only three shots on target throughout the entire match, repeatedly hitting the crossbar or directing low-probability efforts directly into Orlando's defensive block.
The tactical breakdown occurred in D.C.'s final-third decision-making. Rather than executing precise combinations to unbalance Orlando's low block, Washington resorted to hopeful, high-floated crosses into congested central areas. Orlando goalkeeper Cosette Morchรฉ and defender Hannah McCutchen easily repelled these predictable patterns. Early in the match, Orlando capitalized on a turnover forced by Barbra Banda, executing a swift counter-attack that resulted in McCutchen's match-winner. Once Orlando secured the lead, Washington's possession became increasingly lateral, confirming that Audi Field's historic intimidation factor has evaporated when opponents remain structurally disciplined.
3.4 Midfield Imbalance and Misallocated Profiles in D.C.
A major focus of the panel's critique centered on Washington's tactical experimentation in central midfield. The ongoing absence of creative maestro Leicy Santos has severely disrupted D.C.'s progression phases. To compensate, head coach Jonatan Girรกldez shifted Hal Hershfelt into an advanced number ten roleโa position that conflicts directly with her natural profile as a ball-winning, box-to-box defensive midfielder. Hershfelt excels at physical duels, interception reading, and defensive coverage; asking her to serve as the primary creative link against compact defenses stifled Washington's central combination play.
Compounding this spatial confusion was the mid-game tactical adjustment that saw natural striker Ashley Hatch drop into deep midfield zones while Washington already had three recognized strikers operating on the pitch. This positional overlap created severe central congestion. Rather than opening passing lanes for Trinity Rodman and Ouleymata Sarr, Hatch's presence in the midfield occupied spaces that should have been utilized for late dynamic runs. Ali Krieger expressed fundamental confusion over this tactical configuration, noting that displacing one of the league's most lethal number nines into build-up areas neutralized Washington's box threat entirely.
3.5 The Shield Race Hegemony: Gotham FC and the New York Monopoly
Jeff Kassouf's assertion that the NWSL Shield is "slipping away from everybody that's not based around New York City" reflects a fundamental shift in the league's competitive landscape. NJ/NY Gotham FC has established a level of performance stability that sets them apart from their competitors across the 26-game regular season calendar. While teams like Washington, Kansas City, and Portland have experienced severe volatility driven by injury, international absences, or defensive lapses, Gotham FC has maintained an exceptional defensive baseline and methodical point accumulation.
This regular-season dominance alters the strategic calculus for pursuing teams. When the Shield becomes statistically improbable, elite coaching staffs must pivot their periodization and tactical development toward single-elimination preparation. For San Diego, Orlando, and Washington, the remaining regular-season fixtures must be utilized not to chase an elusive regular-season title, but to perfect high-intensity transition models, settle midfield profiles, and ensure tactical flexibility ahead of the high-stakes postseason bracket.
4. Speaker Perspectives & Analytical Contrast
The dynamic between Ali Krieger and Jeff Kassouf on Futbol W provided a rich, multi-layered analytical framework, juxtaposing the intuitive, locker-room perspective of a two-time World Cup champion with the empirical, macro-strategic lens of a veteran soccer journalist.
Ali Krieger's analysis consistently prioritized player mentality, spatial instincts, and defensive accountability. Evaluating San Diego's growth, Krieger focused heavily on their game-management resilience, praising their ability to maintain offensive intensity despite conceding twice to Utah. Her evaluation of Trinity Byars centered on spatial mechanics: the subtle inward touch to cut off defenders, the head-up awareness to lay off passes to open teammates, and the fearless confidence required of an elite forward in a playoff push. When examining Washington Spirit's struggles, Krieger offered an unvarnished critique of their final-third choices, drawing upon her decades of elite defensive experience to identify how D.C.'s hopeful crossing made life comfortable for Orlando's backline. Her skepticism regarding Ashley Hatch's midfield deployment highlighted her deep belief in positional specialization at the highest levels of the sport.
Jeff Kassouf, by comparison, approached the weekend's events through structural, systemic, and historical evaluation. In analyzing Utah's defensive collapse, Kassouf zeroed in on spatial relationships and high-line geometry, quantifying how Utah's defenders stood ten yards in front of midfield without ball pressure, exposing them to single line-breaking passes. His assessment of the NWSL Shield race provided macro-level clarity, separating regular-season point sustainment from postseason tournament volatility. While Krieger expressed patience with Utah's rebuilding processโarguing that their offensive flashes warrant continued faithโKassouf focused on the immediate tactical adjustments required to prevent defensive blowouts against top-tier opposition.
Despite these subtle differences in analytical entry points, both experts converged on core diagnoses: San Diego Wave possesses the elite ceiling required to win three consecutive postseason matches, Washington Spirit's midfield profile misallocations are actively undermining their attacking stars, and Audi Field has lost the psychological dominance that once defined D.C.'s home fixtures.
5. Strategic & Industry Implications
The tactical findings articulated during this broadcast carry profound implications for modern team building and roster construction across professional women's soccer. As the NWSL continues its evolution into a highly physical, transition-heavy league, the traditional boundary between positional roles is undergoing rapid transformation. However, Washington Spirit's struggles demonstrate that positional fluidity cannot be implemented at the expense of profile alignment. Attempting to convert physical defensive anchors into central playmakers without complementary creative structures creates severe tactical friction that paralyzes attacking output.
Furthermore, Utah's spatial vulnerabilities highlight the inherent risks of adopting high-pressing, high-line defensive models without elite press resistance and immediate counter-pressing triggers. In modern analytics, a high defensive line is only as effective as the pressure applied to the ball-carrier in the opposition midfield. If a team allows central playmakers time and space to turn and scan, a high line transforms from an offensive compression tool into a defensive liability. Technical directors and analytics departments must align their recruitment strategies to ensure that central defenders possess the recovery speed and spatial awareness required to execute high-line systems against elite vertical forwards like Trinity Byars.
From a commercial and media perspective, the dissipation of home-field advantage at venues like Audi Field signals a maturing, highly competitive league where tactical preparation routinely neutralizes psychological intimidation. Opposing clubs are increasingly utilizing data-driven opposition analysis to break down historic home fortresses. As visiting teams enter environments like Audi Field with tailored game plans focused on low-block absorption and rapid vertical counter-attacks, home teams must develop sophisticated secondary possession patterns to dismantle compact defensive structures.
6. Looking Ahead: Unresolved Questions & Next Milestones
As the NWSL regular season approaches its climax, several key analytical questions and operational metrics will determine which clubs navigate the postseason successfully:
- Washington Spirit's Midfield Resolution: Will Jonatan Girรกldez return Hal Hershfelt to her natural defensive pivot role upon Leicy Santos' return, or will D.C. continue experimenting with multi-striker midfield hybrids? Tracking Washington's central pass completion percentage into the penalty box will serve as the primary metric of their creative recovery.
- San Diego Wave's Tactical Sustainability: Can San Diego maintain their high-intensity vertical pressing across three consecutive single-elimination postseason matches without suffering the physical drop-offs that plagued previous campaigns? Monitoring Trinity Byars' minutes and transition output will be essential.
- Utah Royals' Defensive Line Adjustments: Will Utah drop their defensive block deeper against top-four opposition, or will they attempt to refine their second-line counter-pressing to protect their high line? Their goals-conceded rate from vertical through-balls will measure their structural progress.
- Gotham FC's Shield Consolidation: How rapidly will NJ/NY Gotham FC mathematically secure the NWSL Shield, and how will their rotation strategy in the final weeks impact their sharp execution heading into the playoffs?
The conclusions drawn on Futbol W serve as a timely reminder that momentum in professional soccer is entirely ephemeral. Tactical clarity, profile alignment, and spatial discipline remain the absolute arbiters of championship success as the NWSL prepares for an explosive postseason stretch.

Early morning on a Manhattan sidewalk, a shooting caught on surveillance video. It was an assassination style killing, and everybody saw it. A new podcast series from ABC Audio in 2020 goes inside this captivating case. I'm ABC News legal analyst Brian Buckmeyer. Listen to burden of proof Luigi Mangione, wherever you get your podcasts. What's going on, everyone? And welcome to a fresh edition of FootballW. Yes, on a Tuesday afternoon. She is two-time World Cup champion, Ali Krieger. Jeff Kassouf and Christina Alexander with you. Week 18 of NWSL is behind us. And we're inching closer to the postseason. But we will, of course, talk about the shocking news over the weekend. Esther Gonzales has a new team, but we will also talk about that U-20 roster for the U.S. Women's National Team. Some of them maybe denied the World Cup. We will break it down. But shall we get to it? We shall. Ladies and gentlemen, let's get to our game of the week. Utah Royals versus San Diego Wave. They said we have to get the weekend started, do we? Let's do it. We're going to take it into the fourth minute of the game at Melanie Barsettas. Tommy, you've heard this before. With a great approval, Trinity Buyers takes it herself, Ali, all the way. Yeah, I'm going to call that through, but it says the ultimate assist. Well done, opposite side of the field. This touch helps propel her forward in front of the defender here. She kind of takes a slight touch inside to cut the defender off. Well done, far post, brilliant goal. 29th minute, a chipped ball. CC Delser. Nina Tanaka deserves a couple of nods here, starting with this goal, Jeff. Yeah, I mean, Tanaka's been outstanding. The ball in from Delphaba, the layoff, and then the body positioning here, opening up the hips, shielding the keeper with a defender's spectacular goal. So talented. 39th minute here. It's Christian McNabb with a fantastic ball in behind. Buyers beats the keeper and gives it to Barsettas. Here you go, friend. Like that, Ali? Yes, that's exactly how it should be. The see a player who's wide open has a better angle than you do. Well done with the assist. Obviously, Barsettas is able to hit this far post. Great finish. 47th minute pro Maroni can't clear it. You talk keep the ball alive. And I told you she deserved a couple of nods at least, Jeff. There's a second one for Tanaka. Another great finish. Multiple fortunate circumstances for Utah and this Maroni. No business trying to dribble out of the back and then a lucky deflection. But Utah back in the game. Very much back in the game. But San Diego was having none of it. Jordan Fusco sending another through ballerine assist here. Ali because Bars does it again. Yes, she does it again. Brilliant run at the back line. And what she does extremely well. Her timing is great. Her positioning to cut in front of the defense. And then make the goalkeeper have to guess. Well done. Brilliant, brilliant finish. Brilliant, indeed. Five goals in 70 minutes. Let's make it six goals here. Luce Mila slots in home, Jeff. Important goal for Luce Mila individually. Important goal for San Diego because right after this, Utah had a number of chances to get back in this game. Even one caught back from VAR. So this was the icing on the cake that San Diego needed in a spectacular game. Yeah, it truly was, especially with what we've seen from Utah lately. It's great for San Diego. Obviously all of the coaching staff there. It was a little bit excited after that victory. And they should be because of the team that we've seen with Utah Royals here lately. Ali, what was the most important part here for San Diego? The question is, are they in the title race now? Are we putting them in there? Yeah, I'm putting them definitely that. Nothing, you know, isn't impossible, right, at this round. I mean, when you have that mentality to stay consistent throughout the entire game, which was super impressive because Utah with Tanaka was able to tie up the game twice. And they just saw the game through and they had a complete performance. And they were attacking and attacking and attacking. They were relentless in that. And even though they did equalize, I think we can't, we can't write Utah off just yet. But they were climbing to the top of the table. And for San Diego to have a statement win like that was really, really impressive. And buyers was unbelievable. She was brilliant the whole game. She had a, you know, a touch on every single goal. She had two assists, two goals. Well done by her to lead the team from the front. She was super active. She was composed but confident. And that's what you need to see by a forward who has determination to get to the playoff push. Yeah, a rhythm from San Diego, Jeff, that we weren't saying at this point last season. After the break, we're seeing a San Diego here stay consistent. Are you putting them up there as well? Certainly for a championship, which will remind us. I had them on our board, right? I was waiting for someone to bring them up. You knew it was coming. You knew it was coming. No, I think championship contender certainly, they're good enough to be in that mix in the postseason, win those games. I think to me, and I'm sure we'll get into some of it, the shield is slipping away from everybody that's not based around New York City, frankly. But the championship certainly, I think this is a team that has a talent, can win three games in a postseason. And maybe has learned lessons from last year and how they dropped off at the back end of the season. Yeah, and when it comes to Utah as well, like we said, this is a great win for San Diego especially against New York City. They go especially against the Utah Royals that has been very impressive. I mean, it's not got like, I think you said it, Ali put them back in the game a couple of times here. And we're still very much inching close to still getting a win. San Diego was able to obviously fall apart or actually break apart there from Utah. So my question here with Utah, are you sounding an alarm for them or are we pumping the brakes here a little bit on Utah? No, I don't think I'm going to jump off the Utah train just yet. I think they have the ability, they have the talent, they have the quality. We've seen it before in multiple games this season. But now this is what separates championship teams or championship contenders versus everyone else. So they have to prove against the best teams in the league that they can have a complete performance, that they can from start to finish be confident on the ball, have a good mentality, and be able to finish games. And I think obviously San Diego had a brilliant game, they were on the attacking foot. They made it difficult for Utah to defend well. But outside of that, they need to prove weekend and week out that they can be at the top of the table that they are a team to beat if they want to get to the championship game. Yeah, and Jeff, I think we had this conversation a couple of weeks ago here with Utah after their last loss. And saying that the timing still works out for them at this point in the season to have these losses, to have these little trip ups, what is the biggest adjustment you think Utah needs to make if they still want to stay at the top of this table heading into a post. Yeah, I think it's been a difficult stretch. So I think the results speak to the strength of the schedule to a degree. I know there were some games in there that were certainly more winnable, but this has been a strong patch of opponents for them. And frankly, they've hung with them. I mean, 4-2, yes, they were in this game, I think more so than the score suggests. And I would say defensively out of this game was the issue, right? I mean, you look at some of those goals. You've got to pass eliminating seven players at once for an assist. You have a player who is talented if she is and Trinity Buyers is getting behind that backline that is one, I mean on that breakaway. They're so high, they're ten yards in front of midfield as the last defenders. Obviously, any player can be on side in their own half. So I think you've got some questions there about spacing and about your spatial relationships between them. And who's picking up whom, how they're sort of figuring that out on the fly. So I think that's a potential issue that they need to sort out from this game in particular. But I don't think it's an alarm bell to suddenly not being a contender or not being in the mix here. I think this is a Utah team that has shown us enough now that within a game, within a season, they can respond. Yes, it's been inconsistent, but that's the league. I mean, this isn't a losing streak. This isn't, you know, a majorly alarming thing. From not a losing streak to a winless streak that we've seen, we're going to take it into our next game. And this was on our airwaves with Washington, the spirit facing or Lando pride at Trinity Rodman ready to go. Barbara Banda back for Orlando. Obviously, very important in the fourth minute. Banda forcing the turnover goes the other way. The run from her is impressive, but what's even better, Ali, her teammates following right with her. It's such a great strike from Hannah McCutchen. Yeah, and for her to follow the play, right, to get, to get herself into the box and Mack Sprint in there to be able to be an option. Yeah, great. And it's wild gem that we didn't see Washington score on this play for the first time. Double post, yeah, I mean, I think they've not seemed to go on Washington's way at home lately, which is curious for them given history, but yeah, both off the post was incredible. Maybe beginner's luck, the first start there with Cosette Morsche. She had a great game. Don't want to say it was all luck from her. Ashley Hatch was so close to her, Ali. Yes, so close. Obviously, a slight deflection there. They hit the crossbar of handful of times in this match, but tough, tough there not to score. Like I said, Jeff, it was an all luck for Morsche, what a fantastic save. Yeah, I mean, big moment for her in an important game, especially for Orlando. And she comes out with the shutout. Yeah, absolutely against Washington spirit. Obviously, it was a great atmosphere as it always is at Rowdy Audi. It was their pride game. So they had drag queens before we had how harsh felt to as a drag queen. I'm obsessed with those pictures still, but obviously on the field, they really wanted to get this win because it's three since their last win at home. It's four since their last win here, Ali. So what's missing for Washington spirit that it looked like with the Wathcom players coming back was going to be the fix? Yeah, and you would have thought that, right? But obviously they're a bit exhausted and drained from that massive tournament that we all loved to be a part of and watch from the sidelines. But, you know, they're now winless in four across all competitions, have three straight at Audi field. I think there were 73 possession, as you could see here. And so many shots on goal, 51 touches, and just inside Orlando's box. And hit the woodwork three times, we saw a few of those. But only put three shots on target. And that is not, you know, usual for Washington. You would see that they would come back immediately. And it just wasn't their day. They couldn't find the target. They hit the post multiple times. I do think when they did get inside in around the 18, they weren't necessarily picking players out to put them in positions to score goals. They were locking balls in and being a bit too hopeful if you asked me. And then I was a bit confused that why Hatch kind of came into the game and played in midfield. When you had three number nines on the field, she's one of your best number nines. And you didn't put her in a position where she's most comfortable. I thought that was a bit confusing for me. She's one of their best forwards and one of the best attacking players. So I would have loved to have seen her a little bit higher on the field in that moment where they did need to come back and get a goal. Yeah, we had the opportunity to talk to Ashley Hatch, lovely person, by the way, obviously a fantastic footballer. Like we've seen her, and I told her that basically her nickname should be Ashley Clutch Hatch, right? Because she was that Clutch player obviously before returning leave and her beautiful son Leo obviously worth this pause in her footballing career. But Jeff, what Ali said, it's true. She comes in the last minutes and they don't really use her in the role that we're used to seeing her for Washington spirit, especially for those last minute heroics. Well, I think that midfield is an issue right now because you see Lacey Santos out. You've seen them not only change formations, but they've tried things where we've even seen in recent matches where Hellhurst felt it's been more in a ten-roll, which is really not her strength. So I think that they've tried different combinations in that midfield. We're all on the bench this week as well. In the absence of starters, really, or players who would be starting in those positions. And it hasn't quite clicked. Certainly the finishing was poor on the weekend. They didn't necessarily... I think they solved Orlando's block at times, but they were frustrated within that 18. And then, you know, that midfield though, I think, where it's been so dominant. I mean, six weeks ago, we were at City Field. This team was three points clear at the top of the table of Gotham, at least. And now there's seven points back looking up. So it's been a terrible stretch for them. Walgotham's gone on a run. And I think this midfield piece has been a big piece of it, on top of other things. We've talked about the fatigue in other weeks, too, for this roster, the absences. But I think they need to figure out what's that midfield going to look like. And ideally, I think it will be back together. Come this postseason push. Is that their biggest issue? Yeah, I think also, you know, teams are now, after these results and seeing these results, are going to Audi field thinking that they can actually get points. Whereas before, I think it was a bit of, you know, anxiety or nervousness of, okay, we're not sure how today's going to turn out. It's going to be a tough environment. We're going to do our best. We're going to play. We're going to show up and play our best. But you never really knew the outcome. Even if you were given it, you're all. So now teams feel confident going there and being able to take points home. And that's a bit unusual that we see recently. So hopefully they can turn it around and stay towards the top of the table and make sure that they cement themselves into the playoff push. Because if this continues the way that it is, you know, who knows what could potentially happen as long as other teams are doing well. Yeah, it seemed like they were very comfortable at home. And now the reality seems to be a little bit different in a place where we're going to see the championship game here at play in November in Washington, D.C. Let's take it elsewhere, though. We're taking it to the West Coast Bay of Sea, hosting Houston Dash. 14th minute here, definitely nice through ball to Linda Olmark, Jordan Silkowitz. Was there a couple of times? A double save. Yeah, Houston trying to put this season together in a more consistent way. Trying to get off to a good start here. Linda Olmarkin, but in behind, she's been very good for them this year. 39th minute. Another good long ball. Cat Raider for Kate Fossy, but it's Silkowitz again now. Yeah, and Kate Fossy, well done. Get inside in this position inside the box. Tough, tough battle here. Yeah, tough situation there. Flat on her face. But well done to try to affect the play as best she could. 51st minute. Danielle Colabrico shoots. But it's Silkowitz on fire and another save. 52nd minute. It was Silkowitz again, Jeff. The Silkowitz show here. I mean, try to both stop. Shot stopper. And this from close range. Smooth as. Oh, there we go. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that.
