Early morning on a Manhattan sidewalk, a shooting caught on surveillance video. It was an assassination style killing, and everybody saw it. And before we do get into things, I have to tell you, there probably won't be any typos in today's show, because he's alive over here. Has been keeping us all honest. It's like a very good defending. Nothing gets past this woman, okay? I was like, uh, in line, this line, and then beat well in the run down. I made sure everything was ready to go off it. That's why she's broke. Okay, let's get started then with NWSL action for you and what we've seen. Over the weekend and all the talking points that come with it, we'll start with racing Louisville, a Gates Gotham FC, starting with the team at the top. And they started out on top as well. We're in the eight minute, Gaden Sharplayed. It's a good alrighting, and she fires it into the net. Yeah, she's been having an incredible season since joining Gotham. And there's been one of the highlights that the team has needed, especially in this moment after a three game winless streak, and Gotham was able to get on the board early. However, early on, there would be the leveler in the 17th minute, Kayla Fisher. The rare moment for Gotham here, and Ankitrin Berger, to not be, to have a bit of uncertainty, obviously a little bit of a stumble there, but a big equalizer for Louisville on this one early. We take it to the 46 minute, and the first half got underway early. For Gotham, they struck again early in the second half. Sam Kerlainen off. It's too sharp. She's going to fire it in. It's such good combination play, and Gaden Sharplay does what she does best, gets in those packets, and was able to hit it. Bar, low, and right to the corner. Great angle right there, too. The ball in the Dudley. I mean, talk about it quick. Straight from the kickoff. Yeah, it's great buildup play, and the combination play the Gotham does so well. Gotham would hold on, and it would be a two-want win for them, and that goal from Gaden Shar, the winning goal for them, and it's another game of multiple goal contributions from Shar. We take a look, when that's happened, a goal and an assist against Louisville here, and to Seattle in July, 2026, two assists there, and then back in May, 2024, against Utah, a goal and an assist. Let's see from Gaden Shar, speaking after the game. Today makes it one year since you officially joined Gotham, and you marked that okay here with a goal and an assist. When you look back at this past year, how much do you feel you've grown as a player, and how special is it to celebrate that growth with a performance like this? Yeah, I mean, I think it was such a blessing, the opportunity to come to Gotham. It's honestly changed my life, and my career, of course. Yeah, I think it's been so fun being on this team and being a part of this club that strives for such high standards on and off the pitch, and I think I've really grown as a human, and as a player, and met so many amazing people and players, and yeah, I think like I said, it's a blessing to be here and to be a part of this club. And yeah, I mean, it being one year, I knew it was coming up soon. I didn't remember the exact date, but again, I think looking back on the investment that obviously Gotham as a club made for me, at a time that I didn't think I deserved it at that time, obviously I wasn't playing as well as I could have been. So yeah, I think I am so grateful for, again, taking a chance on me and for me to be here in front of you all today. And yeah, just wearing these badges in honor, like even some of, like, Toli and Mary have just said, like, how much I've grown since last year, and I think that that's obviously a credit to this club, and the players and the coaches around us. So yeah, it's been great. That's really nice to hear. And before we get into the game, which of course we're going to do, I just want to hear what you thought of what she had to say there and the growth that she's found at Gotham. Yeah, and it, you know, it really matters when a player is happy and they're having fun and they're playing more free. I don't necessarily think that maybe in North Carolina was the best fit for her, but you don't find that out until you're actually physically there and, you know, putting all the work in. So like she said, Gotham, you know, obviously knew the quality that she brings in the caliber of player that she is, that they knew that she would fit right into, you know, their style and their structure. And I mean, I can also say similarly that I had one of the best years in my career and the end of my career when I was 39 playing in my last season because of the people that I was surrounded by, because of the coaching staff who really just kind of give you that spark, give you that confidence. And she had mentioned that. So she's, she's getting that and receiving that from not only your teammates, but possibly, and I know for sure, the coaching staff that's just earned stealing that confidence in her and that's why I think we're seeing her so successful. So it's wonderful to hear that she's in a really good environment because she deserves it and she's one of the best players, best young players that we have. And the winning goal and right at this time, got some needed it because it had been a little bit of a, not a struggle, but there'd been a bit of a bumpy ride in the games before it, Jeff. Yeah, an intentional winning goal to this time on like the cross shot there. Yeah, I mean, I think even within the game, right? You know, Louisville came out with, we've talked about Louisville and their inconsistency. They showed us some of that sort of signature press early in this game. They looked like that they might be able to give Gotham some trouble. And I think Gotham struggled at times to play out of the back in this one early, found their feeding, found their rhythm, found their footing, found their rhythm, and then obviously the set piece goal they conceded. But then they found those wide channels with Louisville playing in that sort of 3-5-2 that they've settled into at times. And I think we saw it on the goal, on the winning goal with Dudley in those opening seconds of the second half, tons of space on that right side. And I think that's where Gotham, again, we've talked about them finding ways, the adaptation mid-game. I think showed you against Louisville. What stood out to you, Ellie? Yeah, I think just that mentality to not allow those three games to really affect them. Because when you're in a position where you're leading on the table, it's really difficult to stay there. So you can't allow yourself to have these dips in play, you know, just to cause the rest of the season to get into that slump. So I think the reaction that they've had, that was great after the three game win this week, like we said, to not allow that dip to become something more than what it really is. And I think going on the road, especially to Louisville, in a city there, and with that team that's, you know, still trying to find their identity and their unpredictable because you're not really sure how they are going to come out and perform. I think that was really key for Gotham to do. And now they're sitting a few points ahead of the rest of the table and back to, you know, where they were three games ago. Is this them over the hump then with that victory? Yeah, I think they have been. I mean, I think, yeah, they had that stretch, as Ali said, with a couple of games here. But, you know, I mean, league leaders obviously chasing down the shield. Everybody keeps stumbling in behind them. So I think that they've managed to maintain some of that distance. And, you know, I think easily the most talented team in the league on depth, on quality, straight down the roster when you look at it. So, yeah, I think this is still the team to be in the league right now. Yeah, well, that's the other point. You've all got to do your job behind them if you're going to be catching them. And that brings us to the next game now as we bring you. What can spirit against Boston legacy? Ah, yes. The regular season running has been thrown into a bit of an interesting situation. I sat a 3-0, 8-9 here. You really stood out in this game. Charles has been having a good season as well, I think. And she's been one of Boston's better players. And then, Melissa Bethy's going to go down in the box. The referee gives the penalty. And after a VAR review, the decision would be overturned. Yeah, this was definitely overturned by the second look at this. You know, unfortunate for Washington, because they could have used this, especially at the beginning of the match. Taking it to the 81st minute Trey-R-A in off the post there. Yeah, this is the start of a calamity of errors defensively for Wafington. And I think this started with individual problems as well. Then to the 89th. The 23rd one gets in the box. What her shot will be saved by Casey Murphy. Yeah, Casey Murphy does a great job here to keep the ball at the back of the net and Tren, she gets into the backs, but obviously a great save. Here comes the Super-Sob, Amanda Gutierrez. We're in it back then, the either halfway line. Spotting the keeper off a line, making it count. Yeah, I missed touch from Tara Rudd and Amanda Gutierrez. I mean, this is heads up. McIver's right out of the goal. No chance here for her this far out of net. Heads up play from Gutierrez. Less than two minutes later. The celebration, too. There would be another chance to celebrate. Love cross-coming in here. An easier. I mean, no. I want to highlight this cross from Lily Real. I think that was unbelievable. And the reason why she just served this on a silver platter, why Amanda was able to score the second goal. But well done, the Boston. Three points on the road and Raudiotti. Pretty incredible. Absolutely. So an unexpected loss there for Spirit does nothing to help them push the catch, Gotham. And another eagle eye in the studio is Jeff Kasi, who noticed the 0.29 expected goal for Washington Spirit there. Let's get the Spirit Coach Adrien Gonzalez speaking about the team's struggles after the game. Another team has gone through struggles before, but what do you think has made it difficult for the team to get back to its scoring form for a lengthy stretch here this season? Well, I think it's a matter of, you know, to insist on the things that we've been doing good in the past. We've identified that pretty good, and especially how we are scoring. And with the profile that we have, I think that's important to keep insisting on that. We've been having a lot of 2B1s on the white channels, 1B1s, early crosses, cutback situations, and sometimes those balls, when we find those pockets and playing through with wingers. So it's a matter of, I think, insisting on that, because right now we are not in a momentum where you need to change the way that you create chances or you need to start implementing new things. Emotionally, you need to have that patience and being humble too and knowing that you are not going to finish a game in the first 15-20 minutes. And again, I've said that many times before, it doesn't matter who you are playing or how they are on the table, if you are away at home, so you can draw points if you are not that clean. What do you think has been keying the struggles for the first half of games? Well, obviously, the stars are more difficult because everyone starts with the same energy. And then right now, we are in a moment in the season that everyone is trying to push. Most of the games are going to be decided at the end. And we need to accept that I wish we could win the game in 45 minutes, but this is not a reality. I think in this league right now, everyone is going to be fighting and the games are going to be tight. Jeff, did you expect that? This result? No. We've seen some struggles from Washington. I think the collapse at the end there, especially lately, late in the game in stoppage time to give up those extra goals. Obviously, they are pushing for an equalizer at that point, but against a team that has shown some fight, has been a bit of a Cinderella upset type of situation that's obviously out of playoff contention, but a spirit team trying to chase down a shield after finishing second, two straight years, that's trying to round in the form after finishing runners-up, two straight years. And there's a little bit of deja vu starting to come in here. And I think if you're them, I mean, I know we talk about these things that maybe people in locker rooms you could tell me. Try not to think about it. Tell us they don't think about it. I think when you look at the spirit coming into October, November, where they have been able to finish the job for two straight years, this starts to get a little concerning, especially with the defensive errors that we've seen. Yeah, I agree on your head. Yeah, a little bit, because I think the largest story is the direction of Washington's spirit. You have Kroy Bethune, who leaves for Kansas City, you have Rebecca Banal, who then leaves from Manchester United. You have Deb is out for injury, you know, the rest of the season. So, you know, what is the direction and when where is the Washington spirit headed? Especially building a team around Trinity Robin, who you've signed on till 2029. And building, she can't do it all. You know, she can't do all the attacking and take that on every single moment and produce every single opportunity. She does need players surrounding her to help her shine as well. So, I'm just thinking the bigger story is the direction of where they're headed and why, you know, they've made those choices to either allow players to go, some of their best players that they've had, who have impacted immediately in their squad and played weekend and week out. And we're very effective in a positive way. So, it's, yeah, my question is, you know, what direction are they actually taking this? Especially, you know, just with the players that have gone in and out. And I think it's, you know, I don't think it's concerning the Washington spirit. They've been at the top of the table, you know, most of the league. But, yeah, what direction are they going in now and it feels like it's a little bit of inconsistency and identity. Do you share those questions, Jeff? You know, I think what you're saying, too, it speaks to standards, right? That this is a team that we expect to be a championship team. It's a team that we expect to be among or trying to be one of the world's best from an owner who wants to be that in multiple places. So, you know, when you talk about exactly what you said, I mean, it is, you know, we're talking about them in this way and also they're second in the table, right? But it is the direction, as you said, lately, I would say, in the past few games, the run of form and then the expectation that, you know, like I said, they've come up short so many times recently in terms of a trophy on either side. Shield or a championship that they've got to find a way to finish the job and you start to see, okay, what is shield is slipping away? Do you start focusing on getting healthy, get ready for November? But, you know, they have to turn around for them soon. Do you use it then? Do you use this as like a driving force? Or do you lose it because this is going to get into your head and you're going to lose that momentum? No, I mean, this is a business, this is our job, right? This is, you know, why you sign up to play the sport and this is, you know, all the pressure that comes along with it, but that's also fun for players to even, you know, maybe have a doubt from anyone that they won't be able to accomplish that. And they'll use that as fire, right? This is the inside of you. Ignite the team. So, I say they bring it on, right? They know what they need to do in order to play better, to score goals, to produce, to defend well. All those details just have to be applied at the same time. And players know what's expected of them and they know how good they have to be in order to win the league. And I think they have the capability to do that, but they need everyone to be bought in and really show up on the day. And we've talked about them being tired on this show and I think we're seeing some of that again. The schedule, personal end team schedules. I mean, I think it's been, it's just been a tiring stretch for them, playing more games than other teams. Okay, let's get you some more action, shall we? We've got San Diego Wave taking on. NC Courage, next up for you. It's been plenty of goals across the weekend to the Snapdragon Stadium. We go, oh, a little bit of entertainment to kick things off here. We're all about that. All right. Yeah, we will be talking about Sanchez, don't worry. But let's start in the 23rd minute here, following to the box, Jay Carly, culling it in. Yeah, beautiful goal, first time. And she has the quality to do this. Just wraps it around the goalkeeper side, then in beautiful first goal. To the 30th minute we go, actually Sanchez would have a shot safety, but then it spills by Pannyos, who comes up with a double save. I mean, the second save, the reaction, obviously right place, but I mean, to get back up, say, ooh, in the face as well. You need to do what you need to do. Big moment. 72nd minute, Melanie Barcenas, cutting and culling it into the bottom corner, too, now. Yeah, she's had a few beautiful goals, just like this, this season. And she's in the right place. Has that confidence to put the ball in the back of the net. And then here, almost the same exact goal that Ashley Sanchez, there's this 19. 19. One off the record. Well done, we're going to try to get back into the scheme. Okay. Really, consolation in the end there. And it would end to want to San Diego wave. This is the remaining regular season matches for both sides. When you're looking at a list like that, Ellie, what stands out to you for either side here that you think, oh, interesting. Yeah, this is going to be a tough under the season, obviously for both teams. Even now seeing that, you know, San Diego wave have to play against a Boston and a Bay. I've seen who caused problems. And Louisville is a bit unpredictable as well. But for North Carolina courage to play at home, versus Gotham, then go to Utah and Seattle on a way trip. And then come back home to play against one of the best teams in the top four league. That's going to be difficult. And in Portland, in Denver, they know their identity. They know that they have the mentality to complete games and to win. And they're itching to, you know, stay in the playoff push, especially Denver. And they could surprise you like they did against Gotham winning three-nothing. So they have the quality. Every single game in the league, you know, is really important. And if you want to be in the top eight, you have to get points. And so it's going to be demanding for both teams, I think. Who do you think gets the most demanding for looking at those lists there, Jeff? I think North Carolina, you look at those fixtures. Yeah, I mean, Portland on there, Denver, as you said, Gotham up next is going to be a huge test. They've got to play San Diego again. And a team that, I would say, too, the courage of relatively speaking and comparatively to San Diego as well that hasn't been in this picture recently. Or at least fighting in this way. That, you know, San Diego is a team that was in the playoff last year pushed for this. North Carolina is a team that's been restructured in the off season, including the head coach, MacLind. Not that he's inexperienced internationally. But first time sort of in the grind of this end of your cell in the business end of the season here. And I think that's, you know, you have to go through it before you can really know what it feels like. And I think this is a newer North Carolina, younger North Carolina group. Okay. A lot of love for Ashley Sanchez, on last week's show. That's something that stood out. We're back there again. And she's making us have to talk about her, basically. So let's get to Ashley Sanchez. Here we go. Most regular season goals. This is what we're seeing in this single NWSL season. This is a list as it stands right now. You guys said it during the highlight. 19, one behind you. I mean, these are some special numbers, Ali. Yes, she's just having an extraordinary season. This has been unbelievable for her. And this is the Ashley Sanchez that we wanted to see for a long time. Coming back, even in a loss, she finds another goal and moves within, you know, one of the best league records. So she has doubled her previous career total. In one season. And she's leading North Carolina from the front. She's combining with EJ as well, who's been providing her great service. But just the mentality and the confidence that she has this year has just been, I think, unmatched from other seasons that we've seen her. And I think she's just taken that on. She's getting herself in positions to get on the ball, to want the ball, to lead the team, and put the team on her shoulders. And that's been really impressive. And I think kind of stepping into this type of leadership position, that's been something I haven't seen in previous seasons. Has it been a positive change? A positive development as a player for her that you've witnessed, too, Jeff? For sure, yeah. The move to the wing, excuse me, as we talked about, to get her wide, to get her 1v1. I think she's had support behind her, too. I mean, this midfield, I talked about them being young. Erica McParkinson, Riley Jackson, two young players. I mean, Parkinson, a teenager still, with help from the U-20 World Cup from England. Because they needed her. And is a player who gives them some solid structure up the spine of their team that allows a player like Sanchez to, she's not known for defending. I think that's still a piece of her game she's probably working on. Allows her some freedom up there to not have to worry about necessarily what's happening behind her. So I think North Carolina has that behind her. Obviously, they need to make sure they're picking up results. It's a consolation goal, as you said, K, right? I mean, it's the most precise and spectacular one. You maybe could ask for. But, you know, it is a result that North Carolina drops points on the road, again, in a race that is extremely tight from one to eight here. Okay, we've got so much to get through today. So let's get you some more highlights. Because next up, Barbara Bandercheon, as her Orlando pride took on, Casey Current, 29th minute. Vanessa DiBernardo denied here. Yes, this is incredible to see her back doing what she does best and what she loves in the midfield. Long wall forward, Barbara Bander, trying to get enough of her half-follow. I mean, from absolutely nothing. You know, I mean, like, the play, the run of the game, looks up, hits it perfectly. Can't get better than that individually. And then, first half stoppages, the Biniest shot would hit the crossbar. Yeah, for sure, thought this was going in the back of the net. But, I mean, she had all the time in space in the world. But the way she hits this, just to keep it low, very impressive. Unfortunately, couldn't get in the back of the net. But well done. Fiftyth minute. Bander into the box strikes again. This was 11,500 people going silent in Kansas City, 28th game on beating streak at home on the line. And it looked like it was about to end at this point. And yet, they rallied back. Current on the break here. Ball gets played to 10, which we can go dribbles past the defender. Scores to one. They always say to nothing is the most difficult. They need to keep. And they're so we can go on the field. You never know what could happen. Beautiful goal to get back in the game. And then, 56 minute. Getting right back in it. 11 here, Elizabeth Ball. Getting the ball in the net. Right place, right time. And Kansas City, always on the wrong end of set pieces. Recycled here, obviously. But something bounces their way on a set piece. I think she made up for that bar revender spin. I'm just looking forward to get one back. A little spoiler alert. Last time I was on the show, Barbara Bander was my player of the week. Not this week, although it was hard not to pick up because look at these stats for this season as well. Just brilliant stuff from Barbara Bander so far. So let's talk more about Barbara talking about the contract extension, which we'll get into in a minute, but first, let's hear from the player himself. I'm just obviously yesterday, so the longer contract, what did you get to be here now for? Wow, amazing. I'm here to stay, you know. I love being in Orlando. So I think for me, I decided and looking at the environment where I am, I'm so happy and being around everyone here, the staff, the teammates, all the management. I think I'm happy looking at Orlando is my second home. What were your teammates' reactions when they heard about you signing your contract extension on one state in Orlando? Wow, it has been amazing in the local room there, because it's always when we are doing practice, then we come back on our phones, then we see the news, then everybody's excited. So I'm happy for that. Great stuff all around now. Jeff, you've been writing about this extension on the website today. You can check that out over on ESPN.com. So tell us a bit more about this contract extension and remind us what a high-impact higher deal is. That's a lot to unpack. Well, in simple terms, teams can spend up to $1 million over the salary cap on certain players, have to meet a certain criteria. Three-time ball and door nominee will qualify for that. Only about a half a dozen or so that we know of in the league so far, most teams still haven't used that high-impact player mechanism, so immediately puts them into, typically anyway, the $1 million plus, which is new territory really for the league, for sure, for seven-figure salary annually in Orlando Pride history. And I spoke with GM Caitlin Carducci. She said, worth every penny. She referenced that game that we just watched and the goals that Banda scored against Kansas City. I mean, a player, she's only three off the Golden Boot Race we were just talking about in fewer games played. So I think a player who changes this game for a land on the other key, and I think part of this resigning for the Pride and making sure, obviously, they spoke with her about their plans to keep her as she needs support around her. She scored, literally, over half their goals this year. She just hasn't had support around her, so they need to get into the winter transfer window, maybe before the roster freeze in October, find some forward support, find some midfield support around her, but high-impact player. I mean, she's one of the players that defines that for this league and this rule. Yeah, I think exactly right, Jeff. I mean, they need to find other players to help support her, because Orlando is a different team with Barbara Banda and they're a very different team without Barbara Banda on the field. But this is exactly what the high-impact player mechanism does. And I think, you know, perfect for Orlando. Like she said, it's her second home. You could tell she's having so much fun there. She's changed the league for the better. She's changed Orlando, Pride for the better, and really, you know, has risen the standard to such a high level. Not only just to compete within the end of ASL, but just compete at the club level there and really bring people to watch them play. So congrats to her. I'm so happy she's here to stay, because I love watching her play. I love the impact that she has and the goals that she's scoring. And you're absolutely right. She's played less amount of games that she's only three goals behind ASL Sanchez. Yeah, so I that lovely quote as well that you were mentioning from Cardo. She worth every penny. But Ali, still keeping hold here, Orlando, of one of the NWSL's best players for the long term. Like this feels like the perfect thing. She seems so happy. They seem so happy. What do you think? Like, why is she so happy? That you know this place well? Yeah, it might be the weather. You know, it might be the weather. The sunshine was amazing every single day, just the quality of life. I also think the way that the club treats the players, they create an environment that makes players happy. They have all the resources and accommodations that they need in order to be successful. I saw that firsthand. And that experience was enough to keep some of the best players in the world if not the best at the time. We didn't get the best results obviously. And you know, we struggled here and there, but at least we knew we were taking care of them. We were supported and we were valued. And I think when you feel that, that definitely then is applied to the game in the football field. So congrats to them and for making her feel at home. Because she's a world class player. And she is a diamond for our league and a player that a lot of us supporters and fans want to watch for years to come. Anything to add? Well, to your point, Kay. I mean, they got this deal done a year before free agency was going to hit. And when teams around the world were inquiring about her, Carducci told me they had world record offers for transfers. So, and I think that's very believable in this case. We hear it sometimes, but I mean Barbara Banda. So they're going to have Banda for the long term. You know, obviously, Zambia missing out on the World Cup. It is as unfortunate as that is. It helps Orlando and keeping her fresh, keeping her around for next year. Okay. There's a little bit of a new story with every result we've got for you today. So let's keep going because we've got more highlights for you. And more news coming this time it's Houston Dash. Taking on Utah Royals. Rebano plays it through to Tanaka here. And that's going to be 1-0 to Utah Royals. Minas Tanaka scored in the 69th minute. They didn't really register a shot on target and suffered that fourth consecutive defeat. But this goal was probably one of my favorites of the season so far. It gets through. I mean, this is why you have to place that service with pace and across the back line because Tanaka was able to get on the end of it. Incredible. However, here we go. After the game, we bring you there. Sandra Mangano, president of Women's Soccer on the firing of Fabriz Gautrao saying our conviction in this group has not wavered. We believe in the quality of this team and its ability to succeed both this season and beyond. We also have a responsibility to evaluate our trajectory and determine what is needed to achieve the ambitions we have for this team. Ultimately, this decision reflects our commitment to those ambitions and our determination to continue moving the club forward. We want to thank Fabriz and Twilla for their commitment to the organization and the work they have done on behalf of the organization. So this is the head coach Fabriz Gautrao and technical director, Twilla Kilgore. Kilgore? Yeah. Go on. I mean, I was surprised. I know the run of form hasn't been good. I think Gautrao has commanded respect and is building something. It's a young group. You look at cat raters having a breakout season. Linda Olmark, she's off at the U-20 World Cup. This is a group that was always a year or two out. Yes, they've struggled. They've been inconsistent this year. But it felt like they were finally building something. I think that's where I have the issue here is that for so long, the Houston dash have been stopped start. They get every decision wrong. This felt like the right hire finally to create some stability. And then you add to it that Twilla Kilgore just got there in February. So we're talking eight, nine months as a technical director. And that position is gone now. So that's where I have the issue with the stability. They've struggled so much with that piece. It's affected their player recruitment. And so they move on now because his contract was ending. They decided, okay, we're not going to renew. And why wait another few months or six games? Let's get this process started. But the actual act of moving on. Maybe you could argue. And I think that the Houston dash are arguing. It signals a new ambition. But they're starting here, right? They need to get here before we start talking ambition of other things. And I thought that they had that base with Fabrice Katra that was built with these young players. Yeah, when they fire the head coach and the technical director at the same time in those two positions. That tells me the club believes that the problem is more than just the results. And I do believe that it's structural. And I think that I don't necessarily think they gave them enough time. This is a young Houston team. They have a lot of quality. They have a lot of talent. And they would show good results here and there throughout the season. It wasn't as consistent. But it's been better. And probably the best Houston I've seen and years. And I do think that there's a bigger issue behind this because you see the head coach in Gatral, he was in Chicago as an assistant and the North Carolina as an assistant. He has the knowledge. He has the quality. He does demand a lot. And he has just the ability to be a really good head coach in this league. And so it was surprising to me as well. But they both got let go at the same time. That shows a bigger issue than just the results. Yeah, drama everywhere. In fact, we're going to give you a run of games now with no drama after them. Probably our storyline's in there. Yazuki Yamamoto takes advantage and scores to tie things up. And she's been brilliant. New to Denver. New to this league. Well done by her to get the goal back and tie in 1-1. Beautiful goal side-money. 50 minute later, Denver get the ball back. Yazmin Ryan hits cross-ball into heaps there for the rebounds. I mean, what a hit from both of them. Vanessa DiBernardo is the one. And the word I'll use, there we go. The word I'll use for her and for Kansas City is balanced. Because we've talked about throughout the season, the start of the season, the lack of Claire Hutton with the off-season transfer. I think their midfield's been in balance. It's lacked that holding midfielder. Vanessa DiBernardo has come back from maternity leave. We've built her minutes. We've seen her more as an attacking midfielder traditionally, but she's really helped bring some bite and some balance to that midfield alongside Lola Bonta. I think we saw her active throughout this, a near Olympic go in this game as well, production on set pieces, and throughout the midfield in open play. I think she was exceptional, and she really provided them what they needed. Two-two draw, but you look at the expected goals in this game. You look at what Kansas City was able to do, and I think really DiBernardo, this week and in weeks prior, really, was able to provide Kansas City with something they've been missing in midfield. You like the pick? Yeah, I love the pick. And you make a good point coming back from maternity leave and just knowing how much effort that takes in energy, getting back to game fitness, and being in that competitive atmosphere, and also just the players surrounding her also has helped make her look good. So congrats to her from building all of that emotion, mentally, physically, to get back out on the field playing her best at this level is really difficult after being out for so long. That's great. Who have you got at like, I have Lindsey Heaps, Denver Summit. I think despite the fact that they tied this weekend and had a really good game against Angel City, she scored a goal. That's not necessarily my storyline. I think the storyline is her coming back to the league and now kind of finding her footing and that leadership position that they need in a midfield, being that connecting piece and that leader from the front that they need in order to get this playoff push. You see this highlight here off of Yasmeen Ryan's incredible strike and it's a rebound goal that she was able to net in well done by her. But to go from a Champions League finalist team, like Olympic Leone, to come back to your hometown team, a new franchise, a new team in the league and to help lead them back to where they want to be not only on the table but also playoff push. I think for her that takes a lot of effort and leadership and well done by her. Yeah, absolutely great stuff. So last time I was on it's been a while since I was on, we've established. I went for Barbara Banda and I almost did it again but I was like, I can't do that. I'm going to invite me back again in a little bit here on football so I'm going for Amanda Gutierrez and I did have to check with you guys. Could I just be her, the Brazilian Amanda? I probably could, right? But we all love a clutch late saw. Two late goals as well in the space of what 90 seconds to really ensure that that was a win and against the spirit as well for Boston Legacy. The first of those goals, very, very special as well. So I thought, Amanda Gutierrez, you are getting it today. It had been a tenth one nil up until then and then she came on and changed everything. And yeah, look at this. Yeah, we were talking about her preseason here. It was like maybe a dark horse, golden boot contender. She's been more of the super sub. And I mean, obviously in this case, you know, she's shown that production and what an upset. I mean, Boston with one of the biggest results so far. It's so difficult to play out, you know, rowdy outy as it is. But also difficult to come off the bench and make such an immediate impact. And score two goals is solidify the win away. So well done for Boston. And despite the fact that they haven't really been where they wanted to be on the table this season to get a win there, you know, with the additions of Lily Real, as well as Shepanski, you know, adding to the team from Gotham and just kind of creating more of a sound, you know, starting lineup. She needs to get healthy. She's ever since she tore that ACL four years ago. Long recovery. Setback. She missed the Olympics. So that's first and foremost. You know, obviously it took us a while to get here, not for lack of asking of what's been happening. She should make the transfer in March from Chelsea. Could have been a free transfer a few months later. So at least externally indicated to us some kind of expectation to play early half of the season. But that external communication didn't exist. And, you know, she's been listed with the heal injury on the availability report. And we saw on her Instagram post that she had a knee procedure. She framed it as a few months ago. That's about, well, that's actually more than the club has offered in timetables. So, yeah, it's just, you know, it's a top world player. I mean, we were in Makaria. Two time Matt Kerman, trophy winner, best player in college. Immediately, you know, the US citizenship right in the camp. We were talking about her. And still can, let's be clear about, you know, a next Marta potential type of talent and ability. Injuries have hurt that a little bit, obviously, but just, you know, people want to see her play. And I'm sure she wants to be out on that field. She talked about it in that Instagram post. And it's just been waiting for that, I guess, has been the struggle from a public point of view. Yeah, and first and foremost, I hope that she's okay and that she gets back to full fitness because we want to see her play. We love watching Cat, and she's an incredible teammate, an incredible player, and a staple with the US women's national team and will help them succeed if she's on the field. But from a club perspective, I feel like the communication has been very confusing. We've heard foot, and then we heard the heel, and then we have, you know, now a knee, especially coming from her. It's been nice, but that's been like requiring the procedure and kind of an ongoing issue that we didn't really, we weren't aware of when the transfer had happened. And just like Jeff had said, we were excited to see her, potentially, you know, we didn't know when it was going to be back, but we thought this season. And for the amount of money that, you know, they're paying or you would have thought that that would have been, I guess more transparent to everyone. So a lot of us have been a little bit confused. You don't have to disclose every private detail. Don't get me wrong, I haven't done that in my past either, with situations. But after an investment of that magnitude, I just believe that, you know, the timeline should make a little bit more sense. And to me, I don't necessarily think that it does. And so, yeah, a lot of people have some questions surrounding that topic. Obviously, there'll be questions about the World Cup next summer and the US Women's National Team, though. That's something that this player will surely still be focused on. But these things look difficult when you're seeing injuries like this. Yeah, and of course, Kat, you know, needs to be on the Women's National Team and the Women's National Team needs her to be, you know, successful, but they need her to be fit, fully fit. But she needs to work towards that now. And she has plenty of time. But she, you know, needs to play club in order to then continue to develop and then get called into the national team. And so, I think, you know, as soon as she can get back to, you know, fully fitness and going to the, you know, getting recovered and going to rehab and doing all the things in the proper order, I think that national team is definitely still there and available. But everybody just wants to see her play and wants to see her play healthy. Yeah, I hope we see her for San Diego. I mean, we know, I think we can all relate to what she talked about, moving home or her adopted home for, you know, to give back to her family to play in a place that she loves and want to see her for a club, want to see her for country. I mean, we missed her at the last World Cup. We'd love to see her get that stage. And like you said, though, have to get healthy first. And, you know, we still don't have a timeline. That's part of the, obviously, she's out for this season. February, then you're talking about a few months to the World Cup. So I think you're probably at this point, I can't say exactly, but the focus first and foremost is probably if preseason is on the table, which maybe it is, we don't know. Get in there, be healthy for preseason, get your feet under you. Hopefully that goes really well. And then certainly you'd be in the conversation for the World Cup. Yeah, hope that is the case. I mean, listen, this is also a result of, you know, in a situation that we're struggling with, playing outside a few for days. We're not going to necessarily get our best players, but what a lineup. I mean, Brazil and the potentially Spain, two incredible games. But I think if the US can combine the way that they did against New Zealand and finish the way that they did against New Zealand, have that confidence going into this next game and having all that mentality that we have as American players.
